Gozen Soydag: Fired for Her Faith, Fighting Back, and Empowering Women Through Wife in the Waiting

When Gozen Soydag posted about biblical marriage on Instagram, she had no idea it would cost her job. Head-hunted to serve as a pastoral manager at a North London Catholic school, Gozen poured her heart into mentoring students, building safe spaces, and speaking life into the next generation. But one anonymous complaint about her ministry page changed everything. "They didn't challenge my conduct, my professionalism - there was no evidence of me evening bringing these ideas into the school," Gozen recalls. "They came against the ministry God asked me to steward. That's when I knew this wasn't about me - they were ultimately coming against Him."

Fired for Faith

Gozen was thriving in her role, overseeing 180 girls, tackling tough issues like self-worth, bullying, and violence against women. But one anonymous complaint on biblical submission sparked an unexpected storm.

"They asked me, 'Why aren't your platforms private?' But these were ministry pages, not personal ones. I wasn't posting about my shoes or holidays - it was all encouragement and inspiration from the Word of God."

Despite complying initially by removing the post, the school insisted her entire social media presence be censored. Weeks later, on her birthday, she was told her services were no longer required.

"I phoned my dad crying. He said, 'They can't do that!' But they did. And in my heart, I knew God had positioned me there. I just remember saying, only good can come of this - even though I had no idea what that good looked like."

Now with the support of Andrea Williams and Christian Legal Centre, Gozen is appealing the case. "This isn't just about me," she says, "It's about our right to speak Biblical truth without fear. If Christians don't stand up, our voice will be silenced."

Wife in the Waiting: Finding Purpose in Singleness

While her dismissal thrust her into a legal battle, Gozen's other calling continued to grow - her ministry, Wife in the Waiting.

"This wasn't a ministry I wanted. As a single woman, I didn't ask for it. But God asked me, are you going to surrender this season to Me or not? That's when I realized - singleness isn't a waiting room, it's a training ground."

This ministry equips women to embrace their season of singleness with purpose, identity, and preparation for marriage.

"He who finds a wife finds a good thing. That means you're found in the character and mindset of a wife. It's less about your husband's ability and more about your ability to trust God in this season."

Gozen challenges women to rethink singleness:

  • "A man is not your saviour. We already have one - His name is Jesus Christ."
  • "Don't make dating an idol. Don't give anything the place of God in your life."
  • When you know who you are and what you're called to, you'll know who to align with."

She also speaks directly into today's hookup culture and the swipe mentality of dating apps:

"There's this illusion of endless options - it's a lie of the enemy. Relationships have become shallow, but marriage is about dying to self, about serving one another. That's what real love looks like."

Why This Matters

Gozen believes her story is part of a bigger cultural battle:

"They're not just trying to silence me. They're trying to silence God's presence on earth. But if the church doesn't rise up, what hope is there for the next generation?"

Despite setbacks, she remains hopeful:

"This is where the church thrives. When we're persecuted, we get louder and more fervent. Only good will come of this, because Jesus Christ is still the solution to every problem in the world."
